Training in maintenance and repair drastically cuts the cost of maintaining a lab. CFA technicians access the skills of computer teachers as new labs are set up. Then computer teachers from a cluster of schools attend a two-week course in Computer Maintance and Repair together.

This training is held locally. Participants gain competence in:
1) Computer maintenance,
2) Trouble-shooting common ICT problems, 3) Downloading software fixes and upgrades, 4) Installing and replacing components,
5) Configuring PCs for networking, and 6) Installing software. 50% of the time is hands-on training.

Six months after the extensive training, graduates bring two problem computers to a free, two-day computer repair workshop. Participants share their experiences in trouble-shooting while the CFA technician helps the group diagnose and fix problems as a team. (See Relationships —African Networking)
